Morning Snacks
Speldhurst Primary School provides fruit as a morning snack for all KS1 children. KS2 children can bring a piece of fruit into school as a mid-morning snack if they wish. Chocolate and sweets are not acceptable either at this time or as part of a packed lunch.
School Meals
Our School meals are available at a cost of £2.95 per day, paid directly to Independent Catering via your Arbor account. Free school meals are available for all KS1 children under the Universal Free School Meal scheme. Children will need to select their own food daily when the register is done – there is no need to order ahead of time, although you may wish to discuss these food choices with your child.
School meals are planned with healthy eating for school children in mind.
If your child prefers a packed lunch, we encourage healthy choices – please try to avoid too many high fat, salt, and sugary foods. Parents of children bringing a packed lunch to school are asked to use a screw-top container for drinks. Glass containers, glass-lined vacuum flasks and canned drinks are not permitted.
Packed lunches should not include any products that contain nuts, seasame, chocolate, chocolate spread or sweets. Children are supervised whilst eating. Below is our packed lunch guidelines.
All children should bring in a water bottle every day (containing only water, no squashes or other drinks) so that they can keep hydrated and drink as they want to. Children in Early Years are provided with additional milk as part of their class snack time, those that are under 5 are provided milk for free, thereafter parents will have the option to pay for this service (details will follow).
To minimise the risk of choking we ask that items such as grapes/olives or strawberries are cut into smaller pieces.
