The Speldhurst girls football team travelled to Claremont school in March to hopefully take home a win. We started off strong with a quick goal from Lulu followed by a successful strike from Layla. Then to finish the goal streak Ellie L snuck the last one in. The half time whistle blew leaving us 3-0 up at the break thanks to Frankie with some amazing saves.
Unfortunately, tiredness took it's affect on us soon after the second half started. Claremont took another 2 shots and scored both, yet we were not willing to give up without a fight so held on well and took the win home.
From Lulu ⚽️⚽️
On Wednesday the 9th of March, we had two football games. In the first game we started off strongly with Jacob's cross being deflected in for an own goal. A few minutes later, Henry scored making it 2-0. In the second half, Rowan came running up with the ball and barely missed with his shot at goal. The defence made some strong tackles and the game ended 2-0.
In the second game we started off well and got an early lead with Jacob scoring two goals. In the second half, Jacob scored another goal and this made him a hat-trick hero! Then, out of the blue, Dylan started an amazing counter attack and nearly managed to grab another goal for the team.
A great well done to the team and thanks to Mr V-T.
Match Report by Henry
Frances was our Sports Star this month for showing great effort in gymnastics and producing a brilliant sequence.
On 13th December, Russet Class had an indoor athletics interhouse competition. We competed against one another as individuals and within our houses. We contributed to our house's score by taking part in javelin, long jump and the triple jump. The top three performers were Henry, Dylan and Eddie. In our house we then did running and chest pass relays. Overall, the winners were Hever with 8804 points!
Bramley finished the term with a mini athletics competition. The children tried to complete each piece of apparatus in the quickest time that they could manage and this was all then added up to create their team's score. They were aiming to create the lowest score possible.
Events involved: high stepper, agility ladders, speed bounce and ball in a bucket.
First= Hever - 155
Second= Rochester - 167
Third= Leeds - 168
Fourth= Bodiam - 173
Congratulations to all of the children for representing their houses so well and really encouraging each other to achieve their best!
Althea is our Sports Star of the Week: 'For her beautiful firework dancing.'
In Crispin class this term we have been developing our basketball skills. In our final basketball lesson, we played a mini tournament, combining new skills we have learnt. These included jump stop, dribbling, defending, triple threat and many more!”
Ellie created a brilliant 'Guide to Basketball' as part of a homework project. She received a Star of the Week award for it but we felt that it also needed further recognition!
Bramley class have loved having the opportunity to learn some volleyball skills this term and were able to showcase their talents in an inter-house volleyball competition. They all did brilliantly but congratulations to the winners- Bodiam!
Russet have done a brilliant job this term of learning to ride their bikes safely on the road. The instructors were super-impressed with their commitment to the Bikeability course; well done Russet class.
Sophie is our Sports Star of the Week: 'For excellently demonstrating a number of gymnastics moves in her class PE lessons.'
School Year 2019 - 2020
Football League Match
On the 7th October Speldhurst played a football match against St Matthew’s. We all played really well with Adam scoring the first goal. The other goals were scored by Camden, Jamie and Sean. Gus and Ben did really well in defence. Jacob and Thomas both played a half each in goal and each kept a clean sheet.
In the first half, we scored three goals and Sean scored in the last five minutes to make the end result 4-0 to us. Hopefully on the 31st we will do just as well and make it a good result. Thank you Mr Vale-Taylor and Mr Ferguson. From the year 5 and 6 football team.
Cross Country Event
On Tuesday 1st October, a group of us from the KS2 running club went to Schools at Somerhill for a Cross Country event. There were 160 children in each race from lots of different schools. The starting line was very cramped. Everyone did really well. Sam came 16th in the Year 3 race. Camden came 5th in the Year 6 race and Dylan came 2nd in the Year 4 race. We all have a great time and it was lots of fun.

Netball Update
We are delighted to be able to announce that our Year 5 and 6 netball team came first in their league this year as well as winning the end of season tournament for the small school league!
A big CONGRATULATIONS to all the children who represented the school in both league and friendly matches.
Primary Schools Netball League - Tuesday 30th April
On the 30th April, we went to Skinner's Kent Academy to play in two league netball matches.
Our first match was against Brenchley and we won 5-1. In our second match we played St Peter's and we won 9-1. We were really proud of the effort that all of our team put in to both games.
Well done to Speldhurst for playing so well and hopefully we can keep this good run going!
Netball Report
On Thursday 21st March, we went to TWGGS and played in three netball matches. Unfortunately, we lost the first two but won our last match against Claremont.
On Tuesday this week, we played two league matches at SKA and won both. The first match was against Horsmonden and we won 14-0. Our second match was against St John's and we won 8-0.
Well done Speldhurst and we hope we can carry on like this for the rest of the season!
Netball League - Tuesday 12th February
On Tuesday 12th February, the Speldhurst Netball Team played in two matches. One match was against Pembury Primary School and the other against St Augustine’s. Our first match got off to a great start and by half time we were already quite a few goals up. The game finished 11-0 to us!
We now had lots of confidence to go on and play well against St Augustine’s. We all played our absolute best and won 7-1. It was a very successful night for us. Well done everyone!
Active 30 Festival
A number of our year 3 and 4 children recently went to represent the school at the Active 30 Festival, which was held at Putlands Leisure Centre in Paddock Wood.
They were able to take part in lots of energetic and fun activities. Two of the highlights seemed to be Fire Fighter Fit Kids and Smoothie Bikes, which both really got the children working hard!
The children then came back to school and did a great job in assembly of explaining to everyone what they had done at the festival.
Infant Agility Competition - Tuesday 22nd January
The Infant Agility Competition took place on Tuesday 22nd January at the Angel Centre in Tonbridge. We took a team of 5 boys and 5 girls from Galaxy Gala Class. The children had put a lot of time into training and preparing for this event and were eager to get going!
The children represented the school brilliantly and all achieved personal bests in at least two of the six events. As a result, they came 3rd out of thirteen schools in the Tunbridge Wells area!
The children’s hard work really paid off and Mr Vale-Taylor was extremely impressed with all of them.
Netball Match - Tuesday 15th January
It was Tuesday 15th January when Speldhurst School netball team played Langton Green Primary School. Due to it being an away match we had to travel to their school.
We got split up into two teams and we all played very well! The end result was one of our teams winning 12-0 and the other team winning 2-0! We were all delighted!
The players of the match were Gus and Francesca.
A great start to the season!
Kent School Games Sportshall Athletics Festival - Thursday 18th January 2018
We took a team of 5 boys and 5 girls from year 1 and 2 to the Sportshall Athletics Festival, which was held at The Angel Centre in Tonbridge, on Thursday 18th January. We had a fabulous time. The children took part in a variety of agility and running events throughout the morning. We came a very creditable 7th, despite being up against some very big schools. Well done, everyone!
Netball Report
The Netball team is once again taking part in the Tunbridge Wells League of local schools. We have played one match so far, which unfortunately resulted in a rather brutal defeat by St Johns. The final score was 14- 1 against us. Hopefully we will improve upon that result in our next match scheduled for early in the New Year.
Year 3/4 Football vs. St James
On Thursday 23rd November, our younger team played away at St James Junior School in Tunbridge Wells. We didn't get off to the best of starts and quickly found ourselves 2-0 down.
Later in the first half, we really came into the game and began to play some really good football. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to score despite a few good chances coming our way.
The game followed a similar pattern in the second half and St James managed to score two more. Jacob hit the post following a mazy run and Adam and Camden both made good runs into St James territory. Despite the defeat, the boys were a credit to the school and behaved superbly.
Thursday 23rd November - School Sport Organising Crew Training
Ten of our Year 6 children attended a School Sport Organising Crew Training session at the Angel Centre in Tonbridge. They worked together to develop the necessary skills and attributes to be an effective organiser of sports and games for children throughout the school at playtimes and lunchtimes. In Term 3, our Sport Organising Crew will begin to provide exciting games and activities which will hopefully encourage even more children to be involved with sport.
Monday 6th November - Mini Basketball Tournament
Nine of our Year 6 children attended the Tunbridge Wells Mini Basketball Tournament where we faced St Matthews, St Barnabas and St James A. In our first match we narrowly lost to St James A who went on to win the tournament. Up next was St Matthews and after a slow start we really came in to the game. Unfortunately, we once again lost in a close match. By the final match we had got in to our stride and produced a very pleasing win. All the children enjoyed the experience and went home feeling proud of their achievement.
Tuesday 31st October - Year 5/6 Boys Football
Our ‘senior’ team got off to a great start in the Small Schools League with victory over Broadwater Down.
The boys rushed into a 2-0 lead but were then pegged back to 2-2 following a counter attack and an own goal from Toby.
Luckily, Toby redeemed himself with a hat-trick in the correct net. He added to a tidy finish from Roy and a belting penalty from Alec.
The boys looked terrific in their new kit which was sourced by Mrs Christie. Thanks goes to her as well as the bumper crowd who filled the terraces (the trim trail) and gave great support throughout.
A final thanks goes to Mr Pearce who took over refereeing duties from Mr Howe who sat out due to injury.
Well done, boys. A tricky away tie at Brenchley and Matfield is up next.
Tuesday 17th October - Tunbridge Wells School Y3/4 Football League
On Tuesday 17th October, our Year 3 and 4 boys team played their first game in the league which is new this year. We travelled to Bidborough and played a thoroughly entertaining game. Unfortunately, despite dominating possession and having the nest chances in the game, we lost 2-0. We have some hugely talented players in our younger age group and I am sure that in future games we can build on our positive first performance.
Speldhurst School Football Review 2016-17
Our boys team have played in the Middle Schools League so we have come up against some much larger schools than ourselves this season! The boys have equipped themselves really well and despite some defeats, they have remained positive and determined to succeed. They have demonstrated great teamwork and I have been delighted to see a real improvement as the year has progressed. We had a number of boys who progressed to the second round of West Kent trials which is a great achievement. Thank you to the Year 6 footballers who will be moving on to secondary school next year. You have been a credit to the school.
Speldhurst girls team this year has been made up of very enthusiastic beginners who are still developing a love for the game. Despite this lack of experience, they have done brilliantly whenever they have played. It took us quite a long time to score a goal but eventually, persistence paid off and the goals started flowing. We ended with defeat on penalties in our final tournament but I know the girls will be raring to go again next year. It has been really pleasing to see that many girls who had never really played football before have gone on to join teams outside of school this year.
Pentathlon:
On Wednesday 14th June, Speldhurst Pentathletes from Y3 and 4 competed alongside lots of other local school in an afternoon of exciting events at Tonbridge School. Events included 60m sprints, javelin throwing, shot putt, standing long jump and a new activity called 5 Strides. In terms of effort, skill and sportsmanship our children excelled. Well done to all of those who took part and represented the school so ably.
Tag Rugby Festival 2017
On Wednesday 3rd May, we took a team of year 6 children to the Tag Rugby Festival held at St Marks Recreation Ground, the home of TWRFC in Tunbridge Wells. Sixteen schools were represented with 27 teams playing across six pitches.
We sadly picked the wettest day of the year so far to play, but despite the atrocious weather, the children had a great time and played brilliantly. We won two of our matches and drew two.
Strictly Cool Dance Competition 2017
On the last day of the Spring term, members of the Speldhurst after school Dance Club stayed behind to prepare for the Strictly Cool Dance competition, held at the Assembly Halls in Tunbridge Wells. It was the first time we had entered this annual competition with about 13 other schools taking part. The theme this year was Rock This House.
The title of our dance was The Nightmare and parents and other helpers, assisted with costumes and amazing make-up. The dance was choreographed by Charley Simmons from Pure Panna who runs the after school club.
It was an amazing evening and although we didn't get into the Dance Off, the children should be very proud of their stunning dance. Well done to all involved and especially to Charley for all her input.

High 5 Netball Tournament - Thursday 9th March
On Thursday 9th March, we sent a team to take part in the High 5 Netball tournament held at TWGGS in Tunbridge Wells. There were 17 teams taking part. Sadly we lost two and drew one game, so we didn't make it out of the group stage. The children played really well. High 5 netball is very different from the regular game, as every player has to rotate and play in every position on the netball court over the course of the tournament.
Tunbridge Wells Schools Swimming Gala
Our swim team showed what they were made of at the annual Swimming Gala, held on Wednesday 22nd February at Tunbridge Wells Sports Centre. Our Team of fifteen Y5 and Y6 swimmers gave of their best in all heats including diving. We finished fourth out of seven teams. Anthony Trigg excelled in the diving pool, finishing just behind the winner and Holly Yates finished in first place in the Y6 freestyle race. Everyone showed commendable team spirit, supporting each other as well as other team swimmers. An enjoyable evening was had by all. Well done swimmers.

NETBALL - TUESDAY 10TH JANUARY 2017
On Tuesday 10th January, our netball team went to SKA to play two matches. The first was against Paddock Wood and we were comfortable winners at 11 - 2. Our second match was against the Claremont B team and again we ran out winners at 6 - 0. At this point in the season, we are joint top of the B Team leaderboard together with Pembury.
Boys Football - Wednesday 23rd November 2016
On Wednesday, our boys football team travelled to St Augustine's for a league match. They played really well and were unlucky to be 1-0 down at half time. Finlay played brilliantly in goal and stopped several goal bound efforts. Luke had a few good attempts but unfortunately couldn't score. The game ended in defeat but the boys can be very proud of their performance.
Netball – Tuesday 22nd November 2016
The team was up against St James on Tuesday and despite a valiant effort, lost by 8 goals to 1. No more games now until the New Year!
Tunbridge Wells Mini Basketball Festival – Monday 14th November 2016
We sent two teams to this Festival. The matches were fast and furious. Our A team played four matches – won two and lost two. They came 3rd in their group. Our B team played three matches – won one, drew one and lost one. They were second in their group. Although neither team progressed to the semi-finals, they played with great enthusiasm. Well done!
Boys Football – Friday 11th November 2016
A fantastic team performance ended a little unluckily, 5 – 1 to Langton. Speldhurst played magnificently, some of the best football Mr Howe had witnessed in his time at Speldhurst! Oliver scored a wonderful goal and we led at half-time. Well done, Boys, you were great!
Netball – Tuesday 8th November 2016
We played two hard-fought matches. The first we won 10 -5 against Southborough and the second we lost 5-1 against Brenchley and Matfield.
Girls Football - Thursday 20th October 2016
Our girl’s football team played their first match at home to Claremont on Thursday 20th October. Despite being beaten 6-0, they played with real spirit and determination.
Netball - Tuesday 18th October 2016
On 18th October, our netball team, who are playing in the B League, made a promising start in this year's league competition, beating Pembury 3:2 and Bidborough 5:3. Well done!
ESFA FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT - FRIDAY 14TH OCTOBER 2016
On Friday 14th October, we entered a boys and a girls team into the annual ESFA Football Tournament at Hawkenbury.
Both teams played really well, but, as always, we found ourselves up against some really big schools. For such a tiny school, we did ourselves proud. The boys claimed a creditable draw against Claremont and Luke Hughes managed to score a fantastic goal against St Augustines.
The girls, many of whom had never played a competitive game of football before, showed a great deal of determination and desire. Unfortunately, our objective of scoring a goal was not met. The girls are clearly saving up the goals for next time!
The children were a credit to the school and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
School Sports Organising Crew - Thursday 13th October 2016
On Thursday 13th October, a group of nine year 6 pupils attended the School Sports Organising Crew training held at the Angel Centre, Tonbridge. Eighteen other schools participated. “A School Sport Organising Crew (SSOCrew) is a diverse group of young people who join together to develop, organise and promote school sport and intra-school competition within the School Games.” Together with the rest of Year 6, our pupils will be leading activities for the rest of the school at lunchtimes.
Cross Country - Friday 7th October 2016
This was the first Cross Country event of the year and for the younger members of the team, their first chance to run competitively against other schools. The older children ran a distance of 1600m and the younger ones, 1200m. Ellen Maclean finished second out of 103 girls in her race with Amelie Bischoff finishing 20th in the same race!
INSPIRE PENTATHLON - WEDNESDAY 15TH JUNE 2106
On Wednesday 15th June, Speldhurst Pentathletes from Y3 and 4 competed alongside 10 other local school in an afternoon of exciting events at Tonbridge School.
Events included 60m sprints, javelin throwing, shot putt, standing long jump and a new activity called 5 Strides. In terms of effort, skill and sportsmanship our children excelled. Well done to all of those who took part and represented the school so ably.
Thanks too, to our Y6 children Sam Harman, Lydia Haythorn and Hannah Goodsell who acted as Sports Leaders and helped to run each activity.
(photo to follow)
TUNBRIDGE WELLS PENTATHLON - WEDNESDAY 25TH MAY
On Wednesday 25th May, we took a team of Year 5's and 6's to participate in the Tunbridge Wells Pentathlon competition. There were 9 schools taking part.
Two boys and two girls from each year competed in the five events. These were 60m sprint, standing long jump, javelin, shot putt and finally the hop, step and jump.
The children performed well and came 7th overall. We were really pleased to be presented with the cup for Effort and Sportsmanship. What a great achievement!
WEST KENT SCHOOLS CRICKET TOURNAMENT - TUESDAY 17TH MAY 2016
On Wednesday, 8 Year 6 Girls went to Bells Yew Green Cricket Club to compete in the West Kent Schools Cricket Tournament. We were put in the A League and first up we faced Bidborough A. Unfortunately we started slowly and lost this game however turned things around in the next game against St Johns, winning comfortably. Our final group game was against last years winners St James and despite some really good bowling and fielding they were too strong for us and we finished 3rd in the group.
Therefore we entered the Googly League for teams who came 3rd and 4th in their groups. We faced Lamberhurst in the semi-final and won by 18 runs and then faced Claremont A in the final. This tuned out to be our best performance of the afternoon. We came out victorious by 13 runs and therefore won the Googly A League bringing back some silverware to Speldhurst!
All the girls performed and behaved extremely well throughout the afternoon and should all be proud of their efforts.
NETBALL TOURNAMENT - SATURDAY 7TH MAY 2016
The netball tournament was held at SKA this year and we entered an A and B team.
In the A league we played 5 games. The results were as follows:
Speldhurst A 2 - 5 St Johns
Speldhurst 2 - 2 Bishops Down
Speldhurst 2 - 5 Claremont
Speldhurst 5 - 7 St James
Speldhurst 5 - 2 St Augustines
We tied joint 4th with St Augustines. The best competitive game was against St James, the eventual winners.
In the B league we fielded some children from year 4 and 5 which for them was their first ever competitive game. They played brilliantly against other teams made up of mostly year 6 pupils.
The results were as follows:
Speldhurst B 1 - 0 Brenchley and Matfield
Speldhurst 0 - 3 St Augustines
Speldhurst 1 - 7 St James
Speldhurst 1 - 4 Claremont
Speldhurst 3 - 1 St Peters

We sent a team to the Tag Rugby Festival, held at the Rugby Club in Tunbridge Wells on 4th May. There were 19 schools represented with a total of 310 children participating. Unlike last year, the sun shone!
We played 3 games in the first round.
We beat Rusthall by 7 tries to 3 and Bishops Down B by 4 tries to 2. Our final match of the round was against Beechwood Sacred Heart A team. It was a fantastic match. We were level at 6 tries each when we had one more play where they scored the winner. The referee said it was the best match he had seen!
As runners up in the group, we went in to the Plate quarter-finals where we met St Peters. Sadly, we lost the match 3 tries to 5.
Overall, the team can be very proud of their achievements.
HIGH FIVES NETBALL TOURNAMENT REPORT - 8TH MARCH
On Tuesday 8th March we participated in a High Fives Netball tournament held at TWGGS in Tunbridge Wells. The team of seven rotated through the five positions for each game with two standing out. We faced some tough opposition and managed to win three games, but sadly lost three more. All the girls played really well, especially as they had to play in very unfamiliar positions on the netball court.
NETBALL LEAGUE MATCH REPORT - TUESDAY 1ST MARCH
The netball team got back to winning ways at the beginning of March. They beat the team from Claremont school 8 - 4 and from St John's 15 - 1. We are currently lying second in the B league, two points behind the leaders, St James, with two games to play!
NETBALL MATCH REPORT - TUESDAY 23rd FEBRUARY 2016
Our netball team finally met their match on Tuesday when we played St James in the league. The score went against us initially, but once our nerves settled we began to fight back, levelling the score at 2-2 by half time. The second half saw an early goal by St James and, although we found the net again fairly quickly, the final score was 4-3 to our strong opposition.CROSS COUNTRY EVENT - 11TH FEBRUARY 2016
TUNBRIDGE WELLS RUGBY CLUB

The netball team continue to shine! At our last meeting at SKA, we played two matches, winning both which keeps us joint top of the league.
Speldhurst 11 - 0 St Matthews
Speldhurst 4 - 3 Southborough
GIRLS FOOTBALL TEAM
Our record breaking girls football team made Speldhurst School history earlier this month when they competed in the finals of the Kent F.A Football Tournament. Up against eleven other schools from all over the county, the girls were representing the whole of West Kent. They played three games, winning one, with a fantastic goal from Maisie, drawing one and unfortunately losing one. This meant the girls finished second in their group.
All the girls played extremely well. Maisie ran her heart out, Macie played through the pain of injury to help us out and Lydia was fantastic in goal, making several brave and high quality saves. Jemima caught the eye of a watching coach and was asked to join a team on the basis of her performance. Mia was the usual calm and steady influence at the back and Ella and Bella buzzed around with enthusiasm making key tackles and incisive passes to the forwards. Katie, one of the least experienced players, really found her groove in defence and played extremely well, tackling with gusto and clearing the ball when necessary.
Thank you to all the parents who came along to offer support and encouragement to the team. All the girls are a credit to the school and have done amazingly well to get as far as the Kent finals. Well done, girls!
BASKETBALL TEAM
On Monday 23rd November, Speldhurst took part in the West Kent Primary Schools Basketball tournament at Skinners School. There were 3 groups of 5 with the top team from each group and the best 2nd place going through to the semi-finals and eventually the final.
Speldhurst entered 2 teams into the tournament. The 'A' team started slowly losing their first couple of games before winning their last 2 games. The 'B' team had a tough start against Claremont but improved to finish 3rd in their group unfortunately missing out on a place in the semi finals by a couple of points.
It was a great afternoon enjoyed by all and special mention to the 'A' team who were awarded the sportsmanship award for exceptional teamwork, respect and attitude throughout the afternoon.
'A' Team= Jemima, William, Sam, Cameron, Sophie, Maisie & Macie
'B' Team= Max, Oliver, Mia, Lydia, Ella & Beth
YEAR 6 NETBALL TEAM
Our netball team have made a fantastic start to the year, playing in the B league. They have won every match and are joint top, together with St James school, who we will be playing in the New Year!
The results are as follows:
Speldhurst v Bidborough 14-0
v St Augustines 10-0
v Horsmonden 8-1
v Paddock Wood 15-0
v Pembury 14-0
v Brenchley & Matfield (no show)
This gives us a total of 18 points so far.
Matches are held at Skinners Kent Academy under floodlights.
Many thanks to Mrs Remordina and Mrs Roberts for stepping in to referee matches when required.
WEST KENT SCHOOLS GIRLS FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS
Following our victory in the Tunbridge Wells Schools Girls League and the St Greggs Primary Schools Football Tournament last year, our girls team have now added a third trophy to our bulging cabinet! On Friday 16th October, Speldhurst Girls were crowned West Kent Schools Girls Champions. They played against six other West Kent schools and met Paddock Wood in the final. Maisie scored the winner in a 1-0 victory to seal the title. The girls will now represent the West Kent Schools Association in the regional championships in January. The girls played fantastically well and are already looking forward to the next round. Well done girls!
Our Kwik Cricket teams A and B. Team A came 3rd in the Kwik Cricket tournament held at the Nevill Ground, Tunbridge Wells on 24th June 2015. The B team came equal 10th in their league.
Years 5 & 6 Girls Cricket
Years 3 & 4 Kwik Cricket - 10th June 2015
Netball Tournament - 16th May 2015
On Saturday 16th May Speldhurst netball team played in a tournament. In the team was me, Ella, Sophie, Iona, Katie, Bella, Rosa and Mia. We were all really scared because we were going to be playing against Claremont.
The first game we played was against Horsemonden and we played really well considering we only had year 5s and all the other teams had year 6s and in the end we won 5-0.
The second game we played was against St Augustine’s. Again we played really well and we won 3-2.
The third game we played was against St James’s. This was a really tough match but with the support from Miss Baker we won 2-1.
In the final game we played against Claremont. If we won this we would be the winners. But sadly we lost 4-2. It all depended on the other team’s scores.
In the end we came 3rd Claremont 2nd and St James’s 1st. Even though we didn’t win we knew that we had beaten the winners.

On Saturday 16 th May Speldhurst A played in a football tournament at Hawkenbury. The A team comprised Henry S, Matthew, Maisie, Frankie, Jacob, Henry.R and me.Our first match was against St Peters, we tried our hardest and won 3-0,Frankie,Maisie and I scored great goals.
Our next match was against Pembury, they were a very good team but we managed to win 2-0, it was a great game Jacob scored and Maisie again. The next match we sadly lost 1-0 against Paddock Wood, we all put in 100% effort but they were amazing. Next we played against St Marks, they were a tough team but Jacob one of our star players scored the winning goal.
We were close to getting in the finals but we still had two matches to go; the next match we were against St Paul’s - we won 1-0 what a game! Next match was against the Speldhurst [B] team if we won that match we would go in the final it was a miracle - we won 5-0.
It was up to us to win the final, sadly the score was 2-0 to them.
We all tried our best and did very well and Speldhurst girls won a massive trophy.

Year 6 Tag Rugby Tournament - 6th May 2015
On Wednesday 6th May, a Rugby team from Russet went to play in a tournament at Tunbridge Wells Rugby Club. After finally setting up the gazebo in the wind and rain, we were ready for our first match. We were on pitch 4 against Pembury A; it was a tight game all the way through, but we came out on top with a win of 7 to 6.
Our next match was against Frant B which finished with the same score and another win. Our last match in the group stages was against Groombridge B which was the closest yet. It ended with a draw although we still won on points difference. We were through the group stages.
Up next was the Cup quarter final, against the champions of last year, Claremont A… It was super tense all the way through and it came out with yet another draw. This time it was golden goal. The ref flipped a coin and George chose heads. Luck was on our side, we had the ball. This try meant everything; Lauren got the ball and ran down the touch line, she slipped in the gap and placed the ball down. TRY!!!! We had beaten Claremont A! Now we were in the Semi-finals. We were against Beechwood A. We thought we were unbeatable after the last match, but were we?
This was the toughest match we had. After try after try, what a surprise, another draw. This time Jacob chose heads, once again we had the ball for the golden goal. They kept tagging us and we couldn’t make it through, turn over ball. That was our only chance. They shot through our defence although losing a tag on the way through, but they had the ball placed on the try line, the ref allowed it.
We were all feeling rather disappointed as we headed off home, but we all had a great time. Henry & Jacob
The school is extremely proud of this fantastic achievement – Many congratulations to the team!
Year 4 Tennis Festival - Thursday 30th April 2015
Four of our year 4s took part in the Tonbridge Schools Partnership Tennis Festival. They all played exceptionally well and with a real passion for the game despite the wind, rain and even hail!
All four of them were a credit to the school and after the round robin matches it was announced that Oliver, Max, Cameron and Abigail had reached the semi-finals against St Peters.
Both our doubles pairings won their games convincingly putting us through to the final against Claremont.
After two tough matches, Cameron and Abigail won their game and Oliver and Max were narrowly beaten by an extremely strong pair from Claremont. With the score at 1-1 it was down to points with us narrowly missing out on the win when they were all added together making us the runners up!! Miss Steptowe
Speldhurst vs St Peters - Wednesday 4th February 2015
The boys took on St Peters away with a team consisting of Matthew in goal; Henry R and Nick M in defence; George P, Fynn, Nicky and Yannis in midfield with Frankie up front. Sam and Henry S were on the bench.
Frankie scored in the first five minutes, so St Peter's brought on an excellent defender and we found it impossible to score again. Despite it being a very cold day, we played really well. Another victory for Speldhurst 1-0.
Girls' Football Match - Friday 30th January 2015

Speldhurst vs Langton Green Netball Match 14th January 2015
Staff vs Year 5 Netball Match - 16th December 2014
On Wednesday 16th December we played a game of netball against the teachers. In our team was me as captain, Ella, Sophie, William, Iona, Mia, Bella and Katie. In the teachers' team was Miss Baker, Mr Poole, Mr Howe, Mrs Lavender, Mrs Waller, Mrs Hitchell and Mrs Lindfield.
In the first quarter the whistle was blown about 1000 times because the teachers kept moving with the ball, marking too closely and bumping into us! At the end of the first quarter the score was 2-1 to the teachers.
In the second quarter it was much the same as the first, however the teachers had learnt the rules a tiny bit more by then. At the end of the second quarter the score was 5-4 to the teachers.
In the last quarter the game began to get very competitive. Mr Howe got sent off for distracting me whilst I was shooting. Mrs Watts (who was the umpire) joined our team which made the teachers very cross!! Luckily for the teachers Mr Howe was allowed back on.
Well done to everyone who took part! Great fun was had by the players and spectators. The final score was 8-6 to the teachers.

Kwik Cricket Tournament - Wednesday 25th June 2014
Football Tournament - Years 4 & 5 - 18th June 2014
On Wednesday 18th June, girls and boys from Speldhurst went to a football tournament at St Gregory’s school in Tunbridge Wells. The girls played in a league with 7 other teams from around Kent. Our first match was against St Mary’s A team. Maisie scored an incredible 5 goals with Charlotte adding another along with an own goal meaning we won the game 7-0. Next up, we were against St Mary’s B team. It was 7-0 again, this time Maisie, Macie, Charlotte and Jemima shared the scoring between them.
Our next match was much closer; we were playing St James’ A team. Macie and Jemima popped up with a couple of great goals while Holly and Lauren remained strong in the defence which meant that we won 2-0. Maisie was back on scoring form for the next match against St Augustines which we won 7-0. Maisie scored 4 goals, Macie and Jemima added one each and there was another own goal.
Our next game was against St James’ B team. After a tight match against their A team we thought this could be another tough match but Maisie scored 3 goals and Izzy added another fine finish into the top corner to make it 4-0 at the end. Our next game was against the reigning champions, St Thomas’. Unfortunately we lost 1-0.
Our final game was against St Barnabas, a game we needed to win in order to win the whole event. It was tense to begin with but we soon took control of the game. Maisie scored another 3 goals and Jemima and Izzy rounded things off to make it 5-0 at the end.
We won the tournament and received the shield as well as medals. Everyone played really well, Lauren and Holly were great in goal and in defence, Jemima, Izzy, Macie and Charlotte were great in midfield and attack. Maisie was superb throughout scoring an incredible 17 goals in 7 matches.
We really hope that our victory inspires lots more girls to play football as some of us had not had much experience of playing and we still played well and really enjoyed ourselves. We would like to thank Mr Howe and Miss Odell for helping us on the day.
Schools Pentathlon Competition - Wednesday 21st May 2014
On Wednesday 21st May we went to St Gregory’s secondary school for a primary schools competition. There were a few year 5s and 6s in our team, we all put our maximum effort into it. There was a biting wind (and we felt sorry for all the spectators, huddled in coats). It was a pentathlon (5 events). Everyone performed amazingly, especially considering the size of some of the schools. We would like to mention, Lucy- she got a 5 in long jump and shot putt, Harry- he got a 5 in javelin, and Paddy who got a 5 in javelin and shot putt too.
Well done to everyone who competed. Sarah Year 6

Athletics-Wednesday 30th April 2014
On Wednesday 30th April the whole of Russet Class (with half of Year 5) visited Tonbridge School for an Athletics Festival. It was not a competition. We were split into four groups - Year 5 girls, Year 5 boys, Year 6 girls, Year 6 boys. We all got a chance to try the hammer throw, it was a rubber bouncy ball on the end of a long string, it was reasonably easy, although if you got the slightest part of the swing wrong it would veer off in the opposite direction. The long jump was amazing too - it was a real sandpit. Several running activities followed on the proper running track and then it was javelin using foam javelins of course! The final activity was 4 x 100 relays for each group.
It was a great opportunity to make sure of the fantastic facilities and every had a great time and tried their best.
