Smartphone Free Childhood Campaign
When children first started getting smartphones a decade ago, there was little research about this impact. Now there is, and it’s overwhelming.
At Speldhurst Primary School, we understand the challenges faced by parents to keep children safe online. Our children live in a world of instant access and there is growing concern regarding the use of mobile phones and the exposure to things that a child’s brain may not be developed enough to deal with.
In the UK, there is a campaign supporting and guiding parents to create a ‘SmartPhone Free Childhood.’
The campaign highlights the growing concern that ‘when we give our children access to the whole world in their pocket, we give the whole world access to our children.’ (The problem — Smartphone Free Childhood)
We wish to share the following information to our school community.
Please follow the below link for a webinar run by Jenny Byrne – Kent regional leader for the Smartphone Free Childhood Campaign - who is also a child and adolescent psychotherapist. It also includes guest speakers Joanna Pringle and the Head Teacher of John Wallis Church of England Academy, who has implemented a Smartphone Free School.
