Speldhurst PE Vision
The vision of PE at Speldhurst Primary School is that every child develops an active
lifestyle through finding their sport.
Physical Education plays a big part of life at Speldhurst Primary School. The children participate in
two hours of PE each week, both of these hours are taught by the class teacher, and have the
option of attending a range of before and after school clubs and local sports clubs with which
we have developed links.
We believe that there is a sport out there for every child and it is about us helping each child find
the right sport for them. We hope that through doing this a child will then be more likely to have a
lifelong connection with sport and that they will be more likely to maintain a healthy and active
lifestyle into adulthood. To support us as staff with achieving this goal, we complete a participation
tracker to keep a close eye on which children are regularly taking part in both local and school sport.
We aim to raise the profile of sport in the school through celebrating achievements in whole
school celebration worships, use of inter-house competitions, sports leaders, SSP competitions
and through the use of visitors to our school.
To help ensure that the children have opportunities to be active at multiple points during the school
day we have also invested, with regards time and finances, in the training of our Year 5 and
6 Sports Leaders. These children receive training to provide them with the skills to be able to plan
and lead physical activities at break and lunchtimes. This means that the Sports Leaders gain both
social and leadership skills and the younger children benefit through more active break times.
We endeavour to provide all of the children, no matter their current level of sporting ability,
with opportunities to represent the school in a sporting capacity and experience sport in
a safe environment. This is achieved through a range of approaches: inter-house competitions,
sports day, mini marathons, swimming gala, inter-school competitions and local sports festivals.
This is again tracked using our participation tracker.
Finally, we regularly look to introduce new, often less traditional sports, to again try and support
us in our school vision of helping each child find ‘their sport’. This may be done through PE lessons
or our offering of sports clubs.
