Procedures in the event of extreme weather
In all cases of extreme weather, the school will always do its best to remain open. In the event of, for example significant snowfall, we will update the school website by 7am. We will also communicate via the Kent School Closures (www.kentclosures.co.uk)
If in doubt, your first port of call should be the website, rather than telephoning the school.
If the school has no choice but to close each class teacher will set work via Class Sites.
We do understand that for some the journey to school could be difficult and we appreciate parents' judgement in such circumstances in keeping yourself safe. However, should your child be absent due to weather, please email the school before 9am at office@speldhurst.kent.sch.uk or call on 01892 863044.
If the weather deteriorates (eg heavy snow) during the school day, our aim will be to complete the school day. The school will decide whether pupils should go home and communication will be sent via email to all parents.
School site maintenance. In the event of significant snowfall, we do appreciate the assistance of local residents to help clear the site. If you would be able to offer this assistance, please provide your details to Martin Steibelt (caretaker@speldhurst.kent.sch.uk).
